🎓 Congratulations Graduates! Your Next Step: Apply for Your Colorado State License

You have completed your training—now it's time to become licensed! Colorado processes all initial barbering and cosmetology-related licenses through PSI, the state's authorized testing provider.

Step 1: Create Your PSI Account

Create an account through the Colorado PSI licensing portal and complete your application for licensure. Your school completion information will be required during the application process.

Step 2: Submit Your Application

When submitting your application, be prepared to pay:

  • $32 Initial Application Fee

Total Cost

$163 Total

  • $32 Application
  • $62 Theory Exam
  • $69 Practical Exam

(Fees are paid directly to PSI and are subject to change.)

Step 3: Schedule Your Exams

Once PSI has reviewed and approved your application, you will be eligible to schedule your examinations one at a time. Most graduates will complete:

✅ Practical Examination

  • $69 Practical Examination Fee

✅ Theory (Written) Examination

  • $62 Theory Examination Fee

Step 4: Prepare for Exam Day

Remember to:

  • Bring a valid government-issued photo ID.
  • Ensure your name matches exactly between your ID and PSI account.
  • Arrive early for check-in.
  • Review the PSI Candidate Information Bulletin and testing procedures before your exam.

Step 5: Earn Your License

After successfully passing all required examinations and completing the licensure process, your Colorado license will be issued through the Colorado Office of Barber and Cosmetology Licensure.
